Manga Afternoon is a pioneering Moroccan organization dedicated to celebrating Japanese animation, gaming, and cosplay. Active since 2010, the initiative has grown into one of the central pillars of Morocco’s pop culture community, bringing together anime fans, gamers, and creators from across the country. As a true trailblazer in the field, the organization was among the very first to host dedicated art and video game contests in Morocco. Over the years, Manga Afternoon has evolved from local gatherings into an established professional platform, becoming widely recognized as a foundational stage and starting point for many of the country’s most talented cosplayers.

The organization is renowned for its high-level event management and for setting remarkable records within the local scene. To this day, Manga Afternoon holds the distinction of having organized the largest otaku and anime event in Morocco’s history: a monumental gathering held in 2015 at Morocco Mall, which brought together an unprecedented roster of more than 250 cosplayers and featured over 20 interactive workshops. Building on this historic legacy, the organization manages professional logistics and organizes the official Moroccan preliminary qualifications for prestigious global competitions, including the World Cosplay Summit and the Extreme Cosplay Gathering. Through strategic partnerships with major institutions such as the Festival International du Cinéma d’Animation de Meknès and the Morocco Gaming Expo, Manga Afternoon continues to create dynamic, large-scale spaces dedicated to conventions and pop culture events.

Beyond organizing local events, Manga Afternoon actively works to connect Morocco with the international pop culture scene. The organization holds the unique distinction of having invited more prominent J-pop and Japanese music artists to Morocco than any other local organization in the history of such events, giving Moroccan audiences the opportunity to experience internationally recognized artists such as Lamia Cross, Nana Kitade, and Miyavi. Through dedicated market research and strong relationships with international agencies, the organization continues to expand the possibilities of what gaming and anime events in Morocco can achieve, standing as a testament to the energy and passion of the growing pop culture community across North Africa.
